Solar energy can be an integral part of agricultural operations, providing a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution. By implementing a solar energy farm, agricultural businesses can significantly reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources, lower operational costs, and decrease carbon emissions.

Investing in solar energy allows you to generate your own electricity, reduce fuel bills, and create an additional income stream for your business. The energy produced can be used on-site or fed back into the grid, potentially generating extra income through energy credits.

Farm Solar Solutions: Powering Your Agricultural Future

Grid Neutral is committed to empowering agricultural businesses with customised solar solutions that cater to their unique energy needs and sustainability goals.

Our solar power solutions help farms move towards energy independence, offering a more reliable and consistent power supply. While solar energy can significantly reduce reliance on the grid, factors like weather and power interruptions can still impact performance.

Additionally, solar power for agriculture contributes to environmental protection by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Farm Solar Panels installed by Grid Neutral at Kingstand Farm

KINGSTAND FARM, DERBYSHIRE

Kingstand Farm, a biofuel supplier in Derbyshire, sought a renewable energy solution to support its energy-intensive operations, specifically drying biological materials. Due to constraints from the National Grid, the farm could only export a limited amount of energy.

Grid Neutral designed a 65kW solar system tailored to maximise energy generation within these limits. The installation has significantly reduced energy costs, enhancing the farm's sustainability and operational efficiency.

Farm Solar Panels FAQs

  • There isn’t one specific panel that works for every project, but we recommend looking for a reputable manufacturer with a good warranty (ideally at least 25 years). Our favourites are Q-Cells and Eurener, but we also offer other brands on request.

  • Yes you can. You can install it onto any building that is structurally suitable for Solar, such as barns. You can also ground mount them on any farmland that you have spare.

  • You will need planning permission for a ground mount array, and perhaps on an agricultural building if it is listed or in a conservation area. If this isn’t the case, you won’t need planning for panels on buildings as it falls under permitted development.

  • Solar panels typically require little maintenance, dirt will wash off whenever it rains. Birds may mess on the panels, which may warrant cleaning. A typical maintenance plan for a Solar system is once every 1-2 years, in which we’d test the electrical equipment to make sure it’s working, and also inspect the panels to see if they need cleaning or replacing.
