Located in Sheffield city centre, The Old Barracks is home to multiple businesses, each with significant energy needs. The building owner sought to offset electricity costs by leveraging the available roof space for a solar PV installation, making the property more energy-efficient and sustainable.

The Challenge

While the building had suitable roof space, the steep pitch of the roof presented a significant challenge for installation. Ensuring safe and secure panel placement while maximising energy generation required careful planning and execution. Additionally, with multiple businesses operating in the building, minimising disruption during the installation process was a key priority.

The Solution

To overcome the installation challenges, Grid Neutral designed a custom solar PV system tailored to the building’s structure and energy consumption. Our team successfully installed 150 solar panels, totalling 67kW, while implementing safety measures to account for the challenging roof pitch.

With the 67kW system in place, The Old Barracks is now expected to reduce its electricity bill by 44%, significantly cutting energy costs for the businesses operating within the building. The installation not only improves financial savings but also supports sustainable energy usage in the heart of Sheffield.
